Shredstep is the second installment in my mixes inspired by riding. I picked tracks and arranged them in an order that I associate with snowboarding. I decided to make this a dubstep mix because I feel that all the different offshoots of it match the range of riding styles out there. From the easy riding and wide carving that can be equated to lovestep to hill bombing and kicker annihilating that can only be scored by borderline obnoxious wobbly sawtooth bass, Shredsteps got it all.
Features: Joker, Mount Kimbie, Sepalcure, Doctor P, Major Lazer, Mister Six, Skream, and plenty more.full tracklist available on request.
Mix 8 is short dubstep mix. It’s on the more dark smoker’s-lung-duck-having-sex synth side, so I guess you can consider it a Halloween mix? Maybe? Could be tighter but I spent most of the time tweaking a MAX/MSP patch to accompany it. The patch is a simple visualization that uses beat detection and some of the program’s Jitter objects. No link to a download unless you want a huge video file. Tracklisting on the video’s page. Oh and there’s a special guest appearance by DJ Mentiroso Mentiroso Pantalones En Fuego aka Tito Frijoles.
Enjoy!
Here’s a look at the patch, really simple and straightforward stuff:
Finished up my 3 week prep course at Parsons a few weeks ago and now I’m 14 hours from starting up the real deal. Here’s a little suminsumin I produced after 3 weeks of North Korean labor camp-like work.
Hopefully 2 years of the same will produce something of epicsauce proportions.
I also made a somewhat janky website where you can check out a few other things I did. For the most part everything I did was of “sketch” mentality, but it was still cres fresh to get my motor going again.
In other news… Halloween mixtape? meh, I want real gigs…
Summer’s halfway done, but for me the days of bbq’ing, fishing, and beaching during the weekday are all finished come Monday. Here’s a quick mix I made for you to enjoy during a private dance session or an all out underground desert rave (wait, how can it be underground if it’s in a desert…). It’s the longest mix I’ve done so far at an hour and ten’ish minutes so it might not be a commute listen like the other mixes I’ve done unless you’re like me and spend a one tenth of your day on a train. I hope you find the time to enjoy Mix #7 Dance, Super Happy!
So here are a few excerpts from the last few pages of my sketchbook. I’ve since bumped up to a bigger pad so I can draw more with my elbow and not so much in the wrists.
I had the enormous privilege to grow up with Andrew. He was one of those people who inspired you to be better in every aspect of your life because everything he did was done with skill, grace, and respect. Nothing he did was ever half assed, especially the way he treated everyone he knew.
I Love You, I Miss You, and I’ll See You When I See You. Forever You’ll Be By My Side.
I finished a sketchbook the other day. It took about 2 years to use it up (I know, I need to sketch more… A LOT more), and before I post up some of the last sketches I decided to share a few pages that I’ve neglected to share. (click the pic for a larger detailed view)
Nothing special, just trying to keep myself busy. These sketches were done with one of those 4 in one pens. Too bad the red ink was dead. Definitely would’ve given the robot red lasers if it wasn’t.
Felt like being extra generous since it’s my birthday and all so today I’m providing you with not one, but TWO 40 minute mixes to enjoy when you don’t want to worry about what your iPod will shuffle to next.
Part one is an upbeat collection of party/dance/fistpump/getbizzay tunes. Part two starts off with some of my favorite recent chillllll dubstep beats and continues with some trip-hop, hip-hop beats, West Coast beatscene… uh beats, a Top 40 track you’re probably already sick of, and one of the sexiest voices I’ve heard in a good while.
I realize time is valuable so if I had to choose one, I like part two better. I mixed part one first so it’s a little rougher and part two is just generally more easy to hang out with (but that’s just me). ENJOY! (Click the down arrow to the right of the player to download)
Alphabetical/incomplete tracklist: Boards of Canada, Gonjasufi, Joker, Junk Culture, Martyn, Phantogram, Small Black, Tokimonsta (There’s also a song that contains the lyrics “Brazillian… Cocoa Butter Honey… Yeah…” so you could argue that you could gits dowwwn with this mix)
